Description from the seller
Description: An 18th-century occasion spoon, with the handle featuring in the middle a figure who holds his left hand above his eyes and seems to wear a heart-shaped ornament on his head, with cherub figures, an oval cartouche and a crown. The reverse side of the bowl bears the inscription "Antje Jans is Geboren Den 20 November 1789."
Origin: Leeuwarden, Netherlands
Silversmith: Jan van Leek (1768-1798). The master mark appears similar to that of Johan Marcus Lentz, but he died in 1780 which does not correspond with the inscription on the spoon. See the book "Merken van Friesche Goud- en Zilversmeden" by E. Voet jr. page 182, mark 133a
Year: ca. 1789 (based on the inscription)
Hallmarks: master mark (IVL together)
Condition: in good condition with light signs of use (crack in the rim of the bowl)
Weight: 51.6 grams
Fineness: 833/1000
Dimensions: 5 x 18 cm
