Description from the seller
Zoomorphic pitcher "Duck" – Saint-Clément Manufacture – Polychrome slipware – Signed – France, 20th century
Ceramic piece in polychrome slip relief representing a stylized duck, produced by the Saint-Clément manufacture.
An iconic model of French animal ceramics from the mid-20th century, combining utilitarian function with decorative sculptural treatment.
Original defect at the bottom rear. No cracks or chips!
The piece features a full-round form, with a long slender neck and an open beak forming the pouring lip.
The nuanced polychromy (greens, blues, browns and ochres) is applied under a glossy glaze, revealing careful work on the relief and the textures of the plumage.
The handle is integrated into the body of the animal, in keeping with Saint-Clément productions of this period.
