Masque Kholuka, a Yaka mask from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, provenance Collection privée, 60 cm high, 1 cm wide and 1 cm deep.
Description from the seller
Among the Yaka of the DRC, the Kholuka masks occupied an essential place in initiation rites and community ceremonies. Associated with ritual societies, they featured in masked dances intended to transmit ancestral knowledge, protect the village and reinforce social cohesion. The zoomorphic face, the polychrome pigments and the spectacular forms symbolize the spiritual forces of the bush, the ancestors and the invisible powers linked to fertility, hunting and initiatic transmission.
Collection of Professor Jacques, Belgium
