Description from the seller
German interwar kitchen scale.
Vollmar is a German-made scale from the interwar years from 1910 - 1940.
Vollmar was a renowned German manufacturer of precision instruments and scales in the early 20th century.
The company was known for their robust mechanical scales for both households and businesses. The specific design with the curved cast iron frame and the large enameled dial is classic for German kitchen scales from this period.
Approx. year: The model typically dates to 1910-1940. The style with the detailed cast iron base and the enameled dial was particularly popular in the interwar period.
After the 1950s, the design was often more streamlined and made of lighter materials.
The scale is a classic example of Art Nouveau (also known as Art Nouveau), which was the dominant style in Europe from around 1890 to 1920.
Features of the scale that define the style: Organic shapes: the sweeping curves and "soft" lines of the cast iron frame. Art Nouveau was inspired by the forms of nature, such as plants and flowers.
Symmetry and decoration: Although the shape is organic, the base itself is symmetrical with decorative grooves and geometric details at the bottom, which is very typical of the industrial design of the period.
Choice of materials: The combination of heavy, black-painted cast iron and a fine enameled dial is the essence of kitchenware from this era. It had to be both beautiful and extremely durable.
Typography: The numbers on the dial often have a slightly antique or decorative font that fits the overall aesthetic. After this period (in the 1930s), there was a shift towards Art Deco, where the lines became straighter and more mechanical, but the emphasis remained on the romantic and curved details from the earlier period.
Time has left its mark on the scale and bowl with scratches and scuffs, but it works fine and weighs correctly within reason.
There are no missing parts.
