In the Viking world, these "arm rings" were far more than just jewelry; they were powerful symbols of status and loyalty. Chieftains bestowed them upon warriors as marks of favor and to seal sacred oaths of brotherhood and service.
Portable Wealth:
They functioned as "hack-bronze" – a portable form of currency that could be cut into pieces to pay for goods. Owning such a solid and well-crafted bracelet was a clear indicator of the wearer's high social standing and success within the Viking community.
