Description from the seller
GENERAL:
For sale is a rare AMC Javelin in the upscale SST trim from the sought-after 1970 model year. This hardtop coupe impresses with its distinctive styling and classic American V8 character. In recent years the vehicle has been extensively mechanically overhauled and visually upgraded. It is a documented SST model that combines driving fun with solid value appreciation.
BODYWORK & PAINT:
The body presents itself in a very appealing condition. The vehicle was professionally repainted about 5 years ago in a rich red and shows a deep, beautiful luster. The lines of the 1970 model are particularly well emphasized by the color choice. Chrome parts and embellishments are in well-kept condition for its age.
TECHNIC:
Technically, there has been substantial investment recently. In September 2024, extensive work was carried out by a classic car specialist (Classic Garage Lischer) (invoice available):
- Suspension & exhaust: replacement of the rear leaf springs and the entire exhaust system.
- Electrical system & safety: replacement of the ignition module and the safety switch.
- Maintenance: lubrication and servicing of the steering (idler arm).
The car is also equipped with a registered LPG system, enabling cost-efficient driving. The engine (304 cu in V8) and automatic transmission operate reliably. The Luxembourg technical inspection (SNCT) was passed on 27.09.2024 without defects (valid until 09/2026).
INTERIOR:
The interior features the well-kept, model-specific SST interior trim. The distinctive features of the "Super Sport Typhoon" package are preserved and emphasize the sporty luxury of early 70s. The cabin feels inviting and authentic.
DOCUMENTATION:
The Javelin’s history is well documented:
- Origin: Documented provenance via the Netherlands to Luxembourg.
- Certificates: An appraisal as a historical cultural asset (12/2023) is available.
- Valuation: An older appraisal valued the car at €30,000; due to the repaint and the 2024 technical investments, the vehicle has further increased in value and reliability.
Proof: The VIN plate confirms the identity as a genuine SST model with the original 5.0L V8.
PICKUP:
The vehicle is located in Luxembourg for viewing and pickup. Thanks to the fresh technical inspection and the current service, the car is ready to drive away.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
With an odometer reading of approximately 16,572 miles (according to the gauge) and the original registration from 30.06.1970, you are purchasing a well-developed pony car. For the auction, detailed photos of the VIN plate, the current workshop invoice, and the faultless inspection report are available to transparently document the excellent condition.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
