HISTORY/DOCUMENTATION
The sought-after top model of the Alfa Romeo Spider of the 916 generation: with the iconic "Busso" V6 engine. It is already becoming a classic. This very nice example was new in Germany on 16 August 2001 and was imported to the Netherlands on 21 May 2004, where the car has effectively had only two owners since. The first Dutch owner bought the Alfa in 2004 with a mileage reportedly over 70,000 km and owned it until 2017. Since then the car has been in the possession of one enthusiast family, in which the car passed from son to father, and then to his brother. The car has been well maintained, with extensive maintenance recently carried out, making the car ready for the next owner. An overview of the maintenance performed is available, as well as the history, booklets, and APK forms. The car features several desirable options and extras, such as a Novitec exhaust system.
EXTERIOR
The Alfa is nicely finished in black metallic paint, which contrasts beautifully with the red leather interior and red calipers. The alloy wheels are 17 inches in size and fitted with new tires all around. Visually the car has no damage, apart from normal signs of use. The rubbers and chrome work are still original. The lighting and windows are in original but decent condition. The soft top is also original, though it can be replaced for a nicer example. The rear window is haze-marked. The Spider’s design is quintessentially Italian: flowing lines, a low nose, and a sporty, elegant appearance. The car was designed by Pininfarina and therefore has a timeless character that still attracts a lot of attention today.
INTERIOR
Inside, the Spider offers a sporty cockpit with classic Alfa Romeo details such as deep dials, leather upholstery, and a driver-centric seating position. The red leather Momo interior is a true eye-catcher. The seats are free of tears but show some entry scuffs. Windows and mirrors are electrically operated. This also applies to the soft top, which is a desired option. Furthermore, the interior is equipped with air conditioning and climate control. A radio is not necessary, because the sound of the Novitec exhaust is so beautiful that one wants to enjoy it pure. With the top down, the V6 sound is fully in its element, making every drive special. Original tools are present in the trunk.
TECHNICAL
The impressive engine is a work of art to behold and is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. This high-revving Italian powerhouse, designed by Giuseppe Busso, is praised for its fantastic sound, linear power delivery, and aesthetics. The car sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just over 7 seconds, with a top speed of around 230 km/h. To stop quickly, large brakes are required, and therefore the factory installed larger front brake discs (the same as those of the 156 GTA). The brake discs and pads have been renewed on both front and rear. Also installed were a new master brake cylinder, new brake hoses, and new handbrake cables. The car runs, stops, and shifts well. Recently the following maintenance was performed:
- new oil and filters
- 6 new spark plugs
- new timing belt
- new radiator
- new A/C pump
- front and rear subframes dismantled, re-shot blasted, and coated
- new control arms front and rear installed
- underbody treated against corrosion
- 4 new tires mounted
GENERAL
The Alfa Romeo Spider 3.0 V6 24V from 2001 is a characterful Italian roadster that combines sportiness, elegance, and emotion. This model belongs to the last generation of classic Alfa Romeo roadsters before the arrival of more modern, more electronic sports cars. In particular, the version with the 3.0-liter Busso V6 engine is regarded by enthusiasts as one of the finest and best-sounding Alfa Romeos ever built.
Under the hood lies a naturally aspirated 3.0 V6 with 24 valves, about 220 hp. The famous “Busso” engine is known for its unique sound: a deep, mechanical rumble at low revs that evolves into a characteristic Italian scream as the RPM rises. In combination with a six-speed manual gearbox, this delivers a pure and involving driving experience. While comfort and modern technology are less extensive than in today’s convertibles, this car is about experience and driving feel. The Spider 3.0 V6’s handling is sporty and direct. Thanks to its relatively light weight and powerful engine, the car feels lively, especially on twisty roads. Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson praised the Alfa Romeo 916 V6 for its perfect handling, an excellent chassis, incredible acceleration, lots of grip, and its beautiful look. He even called it a mini-Ferrari.
Today, the Alfa Romeo Spider 3.0 V6 24V enjoys a special status among car enthusiasts. Well-maintained examples are increasingly rare and cherished, partly due to the iconic Busso engine, which is no longer produced. Consequently, this Spider stands not only as a stylish convertible but also as a future classic with emotional and collectible value.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration.
