Copper jug with brass fittings, dating to ca. 1900–1910 in the Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) style, 33.5 cm high with a base width of 11.5 cm.
Description from the seller
This is a beautiful copper coffee/wine pot produced by the renowned German manufacturer WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik), dating from the Art Nouveau period (Jugendstil), roughly the late 19th to early 20th century.
Here are the main characteristics of the piece:
Material and Style: The piece is made of copper with fittings (handle, lid and spout) in brass or gilded white metal. The design is classic of the Jugendstil movement, which valued organic and flowing forms.
Ornamentation: It features rich repoussé relief work with grapevines and grape clusters, a theme very common in pieces intended for beverage service of the era.
Construction Details: It has a hinged lid with a decorative finial also in the shape of grapes and an ergonomic handle cast with detailed features. The interior appears to be tin-lined, a common practice to make the vessel safe for dispensing liquids.
Condition: The piece shows a natural patina and some signs of oxidation (verdigris) on the relief details, which is expected for its age and authenticates the antiquity of the metal.
Height: 33.5 cm
Base width: 11.5 cm
Shipping and customs costs will be borne by the buyer.
