Description from the seller
Tableware service for 6 people from the famous Italian manufacturer Galvani.
Cute decoration in red tones with a double outline and a geometric motif on the rim.
The set comprises 6 flat plates, 6 soup plates, and 6 appetizer plates.
The service is in good condition, with no cracks, but there are slight losses of the red color on the edge. The photographs reflect the actual condition of the item and are considered an integral part of this description.
The Galvani manufactory was founded in Pordenone in 1811 by Giuseppe Galvani. At first the mark was a stylized anchor, then a stylized G; for a short period the inscription GALVANI in a rectangle (1933-34); and when the factory was taken over by Andrea Galvani it changed to a chick, as in the case of this dinner service.
Galvani, unlike other important ceramic factories such as Richard Ginori, Fontebasso, Società Ceramica Laveno, began modern at the beginning of the nineteenth century and, lacking a seveneenth-century tradition, aimed at a more popular market with earthenware products. The golden age of Galvani is between the two World Wars, with many artistic works shown in Milan and at the Venice Biennale, mainly engaged in aerographed decorations, typical of Art Deco.
The slow decline occurs in the 1950s and 1960s when, for lack of artistic and technological renewal, it struggles to compete in a market that is increasingly demanding. Galvani became the property in 1973 of Ugo Orlandi who sold it in 1979 to Tognana Ceramiche. In 1983 Galvani was closed.
Rare object, very elegant.
