La Serrurerie au XIXe Siècle, illustrated edition by A. Sanguineti, is a French hardcover book with 25 lithographed plates, published by Au bureau du Moniteur des Menuisiers in Paris around 1880, and contains 25 pages.
Description from the seller
The Locksmithing of the 19th Century - Part 1 Modern locksmithing (grilles, balconies, canopies, greenhouses, fences, door panels, ornaments), by A. Sanguineti.
Complete collations of the 25 lithographed plates numbered.
The plates of Locksmithing in the 19th Century constitute an exceptional panorama of Parisian artistic ironwork from the Second Empire and the early years of the Third Republic—the very moment when Haussmann was transforming the capital and when bourgeois buildings in the newly developed districts adorned themselves with cast-iron and wrought-iron balconies, grilles, canopies and balustrades whose eclectic forms (Neo-Renaissance, Neo-Louis XVI, Neo-Baroque) still characterize the face of Paris. This work precisely covers this contemporary production, through plates drawn to scale with dimension indications, which allowed locksmiths, contractors and architects to reproduce or directly draw inspiration from the cataloged models. The work is preserved notably at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and in several decorative-arts collections specializing in ironwork and 19th-century architecture.
Antoni Sanguineti (1829 – after 1880) was a Parisian architect and industrial designer who published, in the Bureau of the Monitor of Carpenters, a long series of albums of models and collections of plates intended for construction artisans and contractors of interior and exterior decoration projects. These publications appeared in the form of periodic issues, often undated, and covered all trades related to building: carpentry (Le Moniteur des menuisiers, Sketches of carpentry for churches, Album of modern carpentry), marble work (La Marbrerie au XIXe siècle), latticework (La Décoration en treillage), locksmithing, and others. The publisher A. Lévy, associated with the same publications from the 1875–1880 period, distributed them. Sanguineti is mentioned in the major building bibliographies of the late 19th century as one of the main providers of practical models for professionals.
In-4° oblong (approximately 35 × 25 cm), green olive calfskin spine, plain spine, no lettering. Signs of rubbing on the binding, creases on the flyleaf, foxing.
