Description from the seller
Bronze - China - 20th century
Good condition - 25 cm
Pair of large cloisonné vases (Jingtailan) with peonies on a red ground – 1960s
【Detailed Description】
• Craft Characteristics: This pair of vases is made using the traditional cloisonné enamel technique (applied filigree). The copper base is sturdy and the wire-work is extremely precise. The body of the vase features a cloud pattern (Ru-yi) finely delineated in copper that serves as the background to the vivid red enamel, a vibrant color typical of the era.
• Motifs and Symbolism: The main decoration is the “Peony of Prosperity.” The flowers are depicted in full bloom, using a shading enamel technique that makes the transition between pink, yellow, and white petals appear natural. The leaves are arranged harmoniously. The neck and base are adorned with classic cloud motifs, creating a perfectly balanced proportional composition.
• Condition and Marks: The base features a lively turquoise enamel (typical ground enamel) with a square mark engraved “Da Qing Qianlong Nian Zhi” (Apocryphal mark of the Qianlong period, characteristic of export pieces from the 1960s). The form is intact, the enamel surface is glossy, and the metal parts show a natural and stable patina.
• Height: 25 cm
• Maximum circumference: 63 cm
• Conditions: Excellent/Intact.
