Description from the seller
Malick Sidibé
The Portrait of Mali
Faces, figures and anthropized landscapes render the portrait of an entire country—the Mali of Malick Sidibé—highlighting the ethical significance of human identity, from the individual to his relation with the social group. In-studio portraits, characterized by the meticulous posing, and the shots that capture the liveliness of parties in Bamako clubs, strictly in black and white, are complemented by color photographs of life in the village of Soloba, in a constant dialogue between the rigid construction of a portrait and the staging of a sort of “plural family album.” The Portrait of Mali is the second volume in the Sinetica Landscape series, directed by Sabrina Zannier. A project on international contemporary photography, centered on the theme of travel, which each year presents the gaze of a great photographer on his own country, from Africa to Europe, from Asia to the Middle East.
