Description from the seller
A Quranic leaf is a remarkable example of early Bihari script, circa 1425, a prosperous state, lying south of Nepal close bordering the Ganges river, became Muslim in the 12th century originally under the Bengal Governors. It contains verses 6-8 of chapter 22, surah Al-Hajj (The Pilgrimage), which portray the signs of Allah - "He is the Truth, and it is He who gives life to the dead, and He has power over all things. The Hour is surely coming - no doubt - and Allah shall resurrect those in the graves". It also wards about disbelievers who will try to turn believers away from the scripture.
The script is written in a unique cursive style called 'Bihari' which was used by India Qur'ans between the late C14th-C16th. The scripts main features are a bold sweeping style unique to the Indian subcontinent, characterised by its dramatically elongated horizontal strokes and monumental scale. The deep black ink, gold-highlighted divine name ALLAH, delicate blue and gilt verse markers (aya) combine beautifully on the page. .
