Description from the seller

Chokwe female statue, Angola / DRC
Wood with a dark brown patina, metallic highlights. A standing female figure with an imposing, architected hairstyle fixed by metal cabochons, face with half-closed, deeply carved eyes and a mouth showing teeth. The hands are clasped under the abdomen in a posture associated with fertility and female power. Significant sculptural presence, synthetic volumes and geometric stylization characteristic of the Chokwe-Lunda complex. Old patina from use.
Collected on site in the 1950s by the former director of the Kwilu-Ngongo Sugar Company (Belgian Congo). First half of the 20th century.
