Description from the seller
Description
The Linn Klimax Kontrol with KK2 upgrade (“Klimax Kontrol 2”) is the second generation of Linn’s reference preamplifier. The upgrade was introduced around 2008 and brought a completely redesigned analog audio board and improved volume control.
Key features of the Klimax Kontrol with KK2 upgrade:
Dual-mono volume control
Each channel half (left/right) has a separate volume topology. This noticeably reduces harmonic distortion and noise floor compared to the first version.
Fully balanced architecture
Supports both:
1 × XLR balanced input
3 × RCA unbalanced inputs
balanced and unbalanced outputs.
Extremely short signal path
Linn designed the audio circuits with minimal signal distance for maximum transparency and timing precision.
Massive aluminum “clamshell” casing
Machined from a single block of aluminum for:
mechanical stability
EMI/RFI shielding
vibration control.
Separated PCBs
Audio, display and control sections are physically separated to minimize interference.
Switched-mode power supply (SMPS)
Later units could also receive the Dynamik Power Supply upgrade:
lower noise floor
improved microdynamics
quieter background.
Knekt multiroom compatibility
Works with Linn Knekt multiroom systems.
What is usually meant by “KK2”:
a renewed audio board (2008)
dual-mono volume control
often paired with the Dynamik upgrade (available from 2009).
In terms of sound, the KK2 is known for:
very low noise floor
outstanding transparency
fast timing/PRaT
neutral yet fluid presentation
excellent channel separation.
Audiophile users often describe it as “extremely quiet” and particularly resolute.
Second-hand:
usually €1,500–2,000 depending on condition.
This is an improved version, upgrade sometimes also referred to as KK2.
