A chrome-plated metal Bauhaus-style modernist shoe bench dating from circa 1960–1970, with a suspended seat, black Skai upholstery and a ribbed rubber anti-slip base, measures 66 cm deep, 27 cm wide and 38 cm high, in very good vintage condition with minor signs of age and small stains.
Description from the seller
Modernist shoe bench / ottoman – Bauhaus style – chrome & skai – circa 1960–1970
Particularly modernist shoe bench or ottoman from the 60s/70s, executed in an elegant combination of chrome-plated tubular frame, black skai faux leather, and ribbed rubber foot plate.
This type of furniture was often used in shoe stores and men’s fashion shops as a fitting or auxiliary bench for putting on shoes. The design clearly shows influences from Bauhaus and functional modernist styles, with a minimalist linework and practical industrial character.
The construction consists of a sturdy chrome-plated metal frame with a floating seat and angled footrest. The combination of chrome, black faux leather, and functional design gives the object a pronounced vintage retail interior appearance.
Probably manufactured in Western Europe, presumably the Netherlands or Germany, circa 1960–1970.
