Laurent Casimir was a Haitian painter born on May 8, 1928 in Anse-à-Veau and died in 1990.
He settled in Port-au-Prince at the end of the 1940s and he was introduced to the Centre d'Art in 1947 by his friend, the painter Dieudonné Cédor. From 1950 to 1956, he attended the Foyer des Arts Plastiques, founded by a group of intellectuals and modern artists, including Cédor.
Casimir was one of the instigators of a Haitian archetype, market painting.
