In-GUT import planimeter from Sweden, dating to circa 1850–1900, metal instrument with dimensions 21 × 8 × 8 cm in good used condition with small signs of aging and spots.
Description from the seller
This object is a planimeter, an instrument used for measuring areas on maps and drawings. It is often stored in a protective case lined with red velvet or fabric.
Function: Determining the area of a region by tracing the outline.
Parts: It often consists of a measuring wheel, a tracer arm, and a polar arm.
The gold-colored logo in the middle is from In-GUT, an importer or distributor of technical measuring instruments.
The code 9580-00 in the top-right corner is probably a specific model or serial number from the manufacturer (such as Ott or Coradi), who sold such instruments often through importers like In-GUT.
Instrument: The planimeter itself is mainly made of metal, probably an alloy such as silver, stainless steel, or another metal.
The large wheels on the sides have a serrated surface (knurling) for grip.
Case: The case is probably made of wood, covered with black leather or imitation leather.
Lining: The inside of the case is lined with red velvet or a similar fabric.
