The Matchbox Lesney No.14 Lomas Ambulance is a scale model of a British ambulance, produced by Lesney Products as part of the Matchbox Regular Wheels series. It was released in the early 1960s and is a beloved collectible within the classic Matchbox line due to its realistic design and early production details.
Key facts
Production period: 1960–1966
Scale: approximately 1:75
Model basis: Lomas Ambulance on an Austin chassis
Serial number: No.14 in the Regular Wheels line
Replaced by: Matchbox Lesney No.14 Iso Grifo in 1968
The Lomas Ambulance was based on a real ambulance body built by Lomas on an Austin commercial chassis. The model has a die-cast metal body with simple white or cream-colored paint and red cross symbols on the sides. The early versions had narrow metal wheels, later replaced by wider “Superfast”-like variants before the model was discontinued.
Today, the No.14 Lomas Ambulance is regarded as an iconic example of early Lesney quality. Pristine examples, especially with original packaging, are highly sought after by Matchbox collectors. The model represents a period when Lesney produced realistic yet affordable toy cars that enjoyed worldwide popularity.
