Description from the seller
Late Victorian engraved silverplate biscuit barrel / tea caddy by Lee & Wigfull of Sheffield, England, dating to the late 19th century, circa 1880. Crafted in electro plated Britannia metal (E.P.B.M.), the piece features finely engraved Aesthetic Movement decoration throughout, including floral and geometric motifs, a hinged domed lid, ornate architectural swing handle, and decorative paw feet.
The barrel retains a strong decorative presence and has recently been carefully polished, allowing the engraved detail and form to present exceptionally well while still retaining an authentic antique character. The interior is clean and the hinged lid functions correctly.
Maker’s mark to underside: L & W.S E.P.B.M 2386
Condition: Good antique condition overall with age-related surface wear and scratching consistent with use and age. Minor historic loss to one small finial detail. Please study photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
A highly decorative Victorian silverplate piece from one of Sheffield’s respected 19th-century makers, equally suitable for display or practical use.
