Description from the seller
This is an Acheulean biface from the Lower Paleolithic, typical of Saharan lithic industries. Its almond-shaped form and flaking on both faces are characteristic of the Acheulean culture.
Technical characteristics
Material: Probably quartzite or brown-reddish flint, materials commonly used in the Libyan Sahara for their availability and lithic properties
Manufacturing technique: Bifacial flaking (on both faces) following the Acheulean technique
Form: Symmetric almond-shaped with a broader base and a tapered tip
Dimensions: The object measures 165 mm in length x 100 mm in width x 35 mm in thickness
It can be dated with a high probability to around 300,000–400,000 years ago.
Homo heidelbergensis (or Homo rhodesiensis) probably made this tool
Multipurpose tool: meat cutting, hide scraping, root digging, perhaps even a thrown weapon or percussion tool.
