Description from the seller

Paul Kooiker - Sunday - 2011/2011
Paul Kooiker - Sunday - Amsterdam, Van Zoetendaal, 2011 - 84 pp, richly illustrated - condition: New (in plastic).
Limited edition: 1000, 34 cm x 23 cm, 84 pages

Kooiker's fascination—against the zeitgeist—with the Big Beautiful Woman materializes once again in a fine publication, beautifully designed by Van Zoetendaal. The current street scene confirms Kooiker's visionary gaze. A great artist with a bold artistic vision.

SUNDAY by Paul Kooiker consists of a wide variety of images of a single female model. Bright colors, porcelain skin, shiny shoes: turning the pages means a luminous sculpture moving in a natural way, almost in harmony but at unexpected moments bizarre and surreal.

The spirit of Hans Bellmer lives on in the twenty-first century in Kooiker's monograph Sunday. These clear exterior photographs show a naked, plus-size woman wearing high heels, her fair body so bleached that her genitals are invisible, giving her a doll-like appearance. She poses, faceless, in positions that are sometimes sexual, sometimes motionless and morbid. Around her is a backyard, with a self-made platform to pose on, and a view of dark trees and shrubs with blood-red leaves. Kooiker uses his contemporary technique to create a slanted, threatening, somewhat vintage atmosphere.
