Pillbox - Oval - .835 silver - BENEDICAMUS DOMINO

An antique silver snuff or pill box with an inscription in Latin. The inscription around the edge reads “BENEDICAMUS DOMINO”, which is Latin for “Let us bless the Lord”. This is a commonly used liturgical greeting in the Catholic Church. Centrally located on the box is a detailed building, reflecting the architecture of a Catholic institute, monastery, or school from that period (possibly in the Neo-Renaissance or Neo-Gothic style). To the right of the building is the year 1926. This may indicate a jubilee, a dedication, or the year of manufacture. The box is oval and richly decorated with relief work (repoussé) on the edges. Historically, such boxes were used as snuff boxes or pill boxes. Made of .835 silver and hallmarked with the Dutch sword and makers mark GR.
