Description from the seller
Fertility Akuaba Ashanti Statue in Carved Wood with Inlay
Second Half of the 20th Century
Fascinating anthropomorphic sculpture in finely hand-carved hard wood, depicting a traditional fertility doll Akuaba (or Akua'ba), typical of the tribal art of the Ashanti people (Ghana). The piece stands out for the classic stylized proportions of this iconography: a large oval head finely decorated on the back and sides by linear geometric engravings, large half-closed eyes and a beaded-neck that rests on a compact female body with outstretched arms. On the forehead there is a characteristic diamond-shaped mother-of-pearl inlay, a precious element that embellishes its aesthetics.
Origin / Style: Ashanti Culture, Ghana (African Tribal Art)
Era: Second half of the 20th century (Vintage Period, ca. 1960-1980)
Material: Solid wood with dark patina and mother-of-pearl inlay
Dimensions: 27 x 9 x 3 cm
Condition: Excellent vintage condition, intact and solid structure.
