Description from the seller
The instrument shown in the image is a vintage oscillometer-sphygmomanometer model "Pulsovio", an iconic Italian medical diagnostic device dating from the first half of the 20th century (primarily the 1930s–1950s) used to measure arterial blood pressure and assess the amplitude of pulsations of the blood vessels.
Following Pachon’s oscillometer, in Italy similar devices were produced and refined, including the Pulsovio itself.
The Pulsovio dial features a dual configuration and two distinct, clearly visible scales:
The lower scale (Sphygmomanometer): Graduated in centimeters of mercury ("In cent. mercurio", i.e., cmHg rather than the modern mmHg). It indicated the static pressure exerted by the inflatable cuff wrapped around the patient’s limb.
The upper scale (Oscillometer): Indicated the amplitude of the oscillations produced by the cardiac wave (the arterial pulse) at the different inflation pressures.
The lower regulator: The numbered black knob at the bottom was used by the physician to calibrate the instrument and vary the sensitivity of the oscillometric measurement system.
This kind of instrument was fundamental in past decades within cardiology wards and in cutting-edge medical studies to diagnose obliterative arteriopathies, study peripheral circulation, and monitor the cardiocirculatory efficiency of patients with a visual precision that conceptually anticipated the modern digital algorithms of today’s electronic monitors.
The photos are an integral part of the description and complement what is stated in the listing.
I assure careful packaging appropriate for shipping, performed with tracking and prompt delivery.
