Bust, Athena Parthenos - 52 cm - Resin - 2000

It is to be auctioned this splendid bust depicting the goddess Athena Parthenos with helmet and gorgoneion. This is a crisoelephantine reproduction created by the sculptor Phidias for the Parthenon in Athens around 438 BC. The goddess is depicted with a helmet decorated by a central sphinx and two Pegasus figures on the sides, as well as the aegis on the chest with the head of Medusa (gorgoneion). Bought in Greece near the ruins of Mycenae. The statue is heavy and during transit some parts of the helmet came loose, which I have repaired with a very strong glue that is not visible on inspection but, for transparency, I have shown some parts in photos. I ship only within Europe.
