Table lamp in Volterra alabaster from Italy, Toscana, circa 1950s, about 37 cm high with a 10 by 10 cm square base, in good vintage condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
An enchanting return to Italian mid-century classical elegance with this splendid table lamp in authentic Volterra alabaster, dating from the 1960s. Carved in the shape of a classical urn with rich vertical fluting, this lamp perfectly embodies the Neoclassical taste that Tuscany's grand manufactories successfully exported worldwide in the postwar period. The stone, with its unmistakable waxy, translucent texture, captures and diffuses light in an extraordinarily warm way, transforming the object from a simple lighting element into a true ambient sculpture.
[Parte Seconda: Descrizione Completa e Dettagliata]
The structure is magnificently proportioned and rests on a solid square base, topped by a foliate foot finely carved and an elegant relief-decorated collar with beaded geometric motifs. Being genuine natural stone, the central body shows smoky gray-brown streaks and veins that attest to its absolute authenticity, making it a one-of-a-kind piece, light-years apart from modern resin reproductions.
The lamp preserves the original electrical setup of the era, complete with vintage cord, side switch, and a fascinating burnished brass lamp holder with a bayonet fitting, displaying its beautiful patina of time. The total height is about 37 cm up to the lamp holder, with a base of 10x10 cm, ideal dimensions to enhance a console, desk, or an elegant sidetable in an eclectic or contemporary interior. The piece is in good vintage overall condition, with a splendid surface patina and minimal signs of time and use consistent with the era, which do not affect its solidity and aesthetic beauty. A piece of exquisite Italian craftsmanship ready to be complemented with a lampshade of your taste or left as is.
