Antique Asian cloisonné centerpiece on a richly decorated bronze mount from Japan, dating to circa 1900–1910, with a turquoise cloisonné bowl adorned with colorful floral motifs and birds, dragon-handled sides, elephant-head feet, and a pierced bronze gallery, diameter 32 cm and height 15 cm, in reasonable used condition with possible missing small parts.
Description from the seller
Antique Asian cloisonné tabletop piece (also known as a compote dish or centerpiece), set in a richly adorned bronze mount.
This type of decorative art typically dates from the late 19th century or the early 20th century (Meiji period in Japan or late Qing Dynasty in China).
The central bowl is made with the cloisonné technique (cell enamel). The bowl features a characteristic bright turquoise blue background, decorated with colorful floral motifs and birds.
The mount is equipped on the sides with finely cast handles in the form of oriental dragons.
The bowl rests on detailed legs in the shape of elephant heads, whose trunks elegantly curl outward.
Finished with an openworked, decorative gallery edge of chiselled bronze.
Origin and style of such luxury objects were often made at the time for the European export market (often mounted in France in the Chinoiserie or Japonisme style). Authentic Asian enamel plates were combined with high-quality Western bronze fittings.
Dimensions
Diameter 32 cm
Height 15 cm
The photos show clear signs of aging and damage, such as enamel flaking at the rim, which is common for antique pieces. (see photo 22,23,24,25,26)
Along the bottom the bronze is no longer completely round, on the top it is. (See photo 28)
