Description from the seller
Ricoh 500 G – Custom Edition "Urban 70s"
We present at auction an icon from the ’70s: the Ricoh 500 G, one of the most compact, sturdy, and beloved rangefinder cameras of the golden era of street photography.
This particular unit is not just a functioning photographic tool, but a genuine aesthetic tribute to the urban visual culture of that decade.
The Concept: Leatherette Regeneration "Urban Grit"
The original fake leatherette has been completely removed and replaced with a custom leatherette.
The inspiration: The texture and sepia tone draw from Street & Urban Photography of the early ’70s (the rough, high-contrast style of masters like Daido Moriyama and the Provoke school, combined with the brutalist geometries of European metropolises of the time).
The feel: To the touch it offers excellent grip, giving the camera a contemporary, minimalist, and decidedly “street” look.
Technical Specifications and Main Features:
The Ricoh 500 G is renowned for its incredible versatility in a pocket-sized body. It can operate in fully manual mode or in shutter-priority mode.
Lens: Rikenon 40mm f/2.8 (4 elements in 3 groups). Crystal clear, perfect for capturing everyday life with a soft, vintage bokeh.
Shutter: Mechanical, speeds from 1/8s to 1/500s + B setting.
Focusing: Telescopic coupled rangefinder (parallax-corrected in the viewfinder).
Operation: Fully mechanical (it works even without batteries!).
Condition and Operation
Mechanical: Excellent. The shutter fires at all speeds, the aperture ring is precise, and the shutter speeds feel consistent by ear.
Aesthetics: Excellent cosmetic condition, with minimal signs of use on the metal that give it a beautiful vintage patina. The new covering has been applied skillfully.
Lenses: Glass clean, no obvious scratches or fungus.
Light Meter (Note): The internal light meter has not been tested due to the absence of the appropriate battery (it originally used 1.35v mercury obsolete cells, today replaceable with modern zinc-air or adapters). The camera is thus sold with an unverified light meter, but it is perfectly usable in manual mode (also with an external light meter or a smartphone app).
Why buy it?
This Ricoh 500 G "Urban 70s" is ready to capture new metropolitan contrasts.
Fast, trackable shipping and bomb-proof packaging guaranteed.
