Description from the seller
Daido Moriyama: Kagero / Mayfly. Haga Shoten, 1972. First edition.
Kagero, also known in English as Mayfly, is a rare early photobook by Daido Moriyama, published in 1972 by Haga Shoten. It appeared in the same important year as Farewell Photography and A Hunter, making it a notable work from one of the most intense and experimental periods of Moriyama’s early career.
Unlike his better-known street photographs, this book is devoted to nude photographs, including staged and bondage-related images. Moriyama’s raw black-and-white visual language, with its grain, contrast and physical immediacy, gives the work a powerful and unsettling atmosphere. The book is also notable as one of the few early Moriyama publications focused exclusively on the nude, and remains a highly sought-after title among collectors of Japanese photography.
A rare and important first edition from the early 1970s.
CONDITION
Light rubbing and creasing. The original glassine paper has sunning and tears. The book itself has slight creasing to the spine. Overall in very good condition.
