Osaka [Inscribed & Signed], a first edition Japanese-language photography book by Shigekazu Kawamura, self-published in 1978, 180 pages, softback, 25.8 × 15.8 cm, one of 29 copies, with rubbing to the covers and spine, signed and inscribed for photography critic Akira Hasegawa.

Osaka is a rare self-published photobook by Shigekazu Kawamura, a photographer who was associated with Daido Moriyama’s studio. Published in 1978, the book dynamically captures Osaka in the 1970s, photographed over a period of approximately four years.
Kawamura photographs landmarks such as Osaka Castle, the Glico neon sign, Tsutenkaku Tower and the Kuidaore doll, as well as the bustle of the city, signs, streets and faces of its people. The images are presented in a powerful, high-contrast style, with rough, dynamic compositions that show the influence of Daido Moriyama.
At the end of the book, Daido Moriyama contributes a text titled “Tojo nite” / “On the Road.” This copy is signed and inscribed to photography critic Akira Hasegawa.
Condition:
Rubbing to the front cover, back cover and spine.
