Description from the seller

English “London Rack” corkscrew to the patent of William Lund, London, 1855, presumably manufactured at the end of the 19th century.

This type belongs to the so-called “rack and pinion” corkscrews: a mechanical system where a rack and lever provide a controlled and powerful extraction of the cork. The mechanism is regarded as an important Victorian innovation within the development of the corkscrew.

Construction with a wooden T-handle, metal open frame and original worm. A notable detail is the still-present brush in the grip, intended to clean the bottle mouth and cork residues — an element that is often missing in preserved specimens.

Beautiful authentic patina on wood and metal, with normal signs of use appropriate to its age. The mechanism is complete and preserves its original character without over-restoration.

A classic and decorative collectible within the English corkscrew tradition.
