Antique Boch Frères Keramis faience vase, circa 1890–1915, 40 cm high, hand‑painted in cobalt blue on white with birds and flowers, bearing an old BFK monogram (BFK‑9‑H) and in exceptionally good condition with no chips, cracks, restorations or craquelé.
Description from the seller
Antique Boch Frères Keramis vase –
ca. 1890–1915 – 40 cm – in perfect condition
Gorgeous large hand-painted
vase by Boch Frères Keramis from
La Louvière, Belgium.
Key details:
- visible brush variation,
- different shades of blue,
- spontaneous brushwork
The early interwoven BFK monogram refers to the early
production of Boch Frères Keramis
before ca. 1920.
According to specialist literature, the extra letter under the
monogram was used to identify the painter or the decoration workshop
within the so-called Chambre
des Peintres. Many of these painter codes are not fully documented today, making
identical marks rarely traceable.
This vase bears the rare combination
“BFK – 9 – H,” which makes the piece even more interesting for
collectors of early Belgian
ceramics and Boch faience.
The vase is executed in a refined blue-and-white decor with floral motifs and birds,
clearly inspired by Delftware and japonisme
affectations popular during the Art Nouveau period.
