A late Victorian to Edwardian walking cane, 92 cm long, with a curved crook handle and decorative white metal mounts featuring scrolling foliate ornament, constructed from wood with white metal fittings and missing its ferrule.
Description from the seller
A late Victorian to Edwardian walking cane, featuring a gracefully curved crook handle and decorative white metal mounts with scrolling foliate ornament, including a shaped terminal cap to the handle. The warm honey-toned shaft presents attractive natural figuring and a pleasing contrast with the bright metal mounts, creating an elegant and decorative composition.
The design reflects the refined aesthetic of period walking accessories, combining practical form with ornamental detailing. The elongated proportions and restrained decoration give the piece a particularly elegant silhouette.
Condition is fair, with visible age-related wear throughout. The shaft shows surface marks, scratches and natural wear consistent with age and use. The white metal mounts display wear and minor deformation. The crook handle shows visible age-related surface cracking and checking to the wood. The cane is missing its ferrule, and the shaft end shows wear from use.
Structurally presentable primarily as a decorative antique cane, with the condition issues clearly noted. Length: 92 cm.
