Italian-made linen tablecloth with coordinated napkins, dating to ca. 1910–1920, in natural cream linen with a wide Cantù lace border and hand-finished embroidery, dimensions 280 cm by 240 cm, weight 2 kg, in unused condition.
Description from the seller
This is a work of high textile craftsmanship, a classic example of luxury linen typical of the European tradition (very common in fine Italian or French productions from the first half of the 20th century).
It is pure linen in an ecru color or natural cream. The weave is dense and even, a sign of high-quality yarn that feels crisp to the touch and offers great durability over time.
Lace Work: The most precious feature is the wide Cantù lace edge (or bobbin lace of the Venice type). It shows a very complex craftsmanship with:
Venice Stitch and Net Stitch: The different densities of the lace create a play of transparency and relief.
Floral and Scroll Motifs: The lace pattern is rich in baroque and stylized floral motifs, extending toward the interior of the tablecloth with scalloped points.
Embroidery and Finishes:
Satin Stitch and Grass Stitch: The body of the tablecloth features delicate hand-embroidered floral motifs that echo the lace patterns.
Hemstitch: The connection between the lace and the linen fabric is finished with a meticulous hemstitch, which serves as a decorative frame.
Cutwork: There are small cutwork inserts with eyelet finishes inside the floral embroidery.
The Napkins
The coordinated napkins echo the same style as the tablecloth:
They feature a corner lace insert identical to the main border.
The edges are finished with an extremely fine hand-sewn hem, preserving the elegance of the entire set.
