Description from the seller
Pair of cassolettes (service vase for incense burner or perfume burner) in Louis XVI style, made in France during the 19th century / ca. 1900.
This type of incense piece was originally used as an incense burner, potpourri vase, or purely as a decoration for the mantel.
Many of these pieces have a functional secret: when the lid is flipped over, the object becomes a candlestick (candelabrum).
:
Made from white Carrara marble (or alabaster/onyx) combined with fire-gilded bronze (ormolu).
Decorated with classical ram heads (têtes de bélier) on the sides, which transition into graceful bronze-gilded floral garlands or garlands.
The egg-shaped vase rests on a three-legged bronze stand with hoof feet, placed on a round marble base.
Finished with a bronze-gilded knop in the form of a pinecone or floral motif
The gilding is still present on the bronze parts but needs cleaning.
For 1 vase there is a crack in the “foot” and this needs to be restored.
