Fruit Jasper (also known as Ajooba Jasper or Sabalgarh Marble) is a colourful, natural stone primarily sourced from Madhya Pradesh, India.
It is a brecciated, multi-coloured aggregate known for its distinctive nodules of red, green, yellow, and orange set within a beige or tan matrix, resembling a fruitcake.
Despite its trade name, scientific analysis reveals that Fruit Jasper is not a true chalcedony-based jasper. It is classified as an ancient calcitic to dolomitic marble originating from Silurian-age limestone deposits. Quick Facts & Properties: Origin: Gora Quarry near Sabalgarh in the Madhya Pradesh state, India. Composition: Calcite or dolomite (marble) with inclusions of various mineral nodules.
Colours: Red, brown, green, yellow, and orange spots in a buff/grey matrix.
Hardness: Typically between 3 and 4 on the Mohs scale, though some heavily silicified pieces may feel harder.
Care Instructions: Due to its softer, marble-based composition, it requires gentle cleaning. Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners, steamers, or prolonged submersion in water.
