AKG D12 dynamic cardioid microphone, manufactured around 1953 in one of the earliest pre-1960 series, in good condition and tested as functioning, weight 500 g, includes mounting connector and copies of technical brochures.
Description from the seller
The AKG D12 presented here is over 70 years old and doesn’t show it. The serial number “2123” indicates that it belonged to the very early series produced before 1960. And it’s working!
The AKG D12, released in 1953, was the first cardioid dynamic microphone and is undoubtedly the first dedicated to instruments characterized by low frequencies.
The moving-coil cartridge is coupled to a hand-built “bass chamber” incorporated into the grille basket. The internal steel elastic suspension protects the acoustic system from vibrations and shocks, isolating the capsule from the grille. It has the capacity to withstand very high SPL levels before distortion.
The highly focused directional characteristic is extremely useful for eliminating feedback.
The swiveling joint fits any stand with an incorporated threaded adapter, allowing three mounting types.
The standard D12 microphone is transformerless and has an impedance of about 60 ohms.
This microphone was widely used in the 1950s/60s, and the Abbey Road sessions with the Beatles are famous, particularly as the preferred overhead microphone for Ringo Starr’s kit.
The AKG D12 presented here, part of a recording studio’s historic collection, is supplied with the mounting connector and copies of the technical brochures. It is completely original, except for the XLR connector and the grille mounting screws. The plastic frame of the grilles has been repaired as highlighted in the photos.
Understandably, given its age, the frequency response is no longer the original one, but it is functional and tested before shipment. Visually it shows signs of time and use (photo).
Shipping will be via international courier or Italian Post with tracking, at a cost of €30.00 for EU countries and €55.00 for other continental countries.
