Jerusalem, a 1st edition Italian softcover photography book by Giovanni Chiaramonte, signed on the title page, published in 2014 by Libreria Editrice Vaticana, 96 pages, 22 × 22 cm, in Italian.
Description from the seller
A exceptionally signed splendid copy on the title page by Giovanni Chiaramonte (1948 - 2023), I found nowhere else on the internet as a signed copy. 35 full-page color photographs printed on the recto only with a text by Giovanni Chiaramonte. Paperback edition with illustrated cover in excellent condition (like new).
Children from a school playing in front of the Tablets of the Law, a kite rising into the sky to celebrate the Festa della Repubblica, a chopped tree trunk felled during the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, the tomb of David, the Wailing Wall, the cenacle where Christ and the apostles celebrated Easter, the crypt of the Holy Sepulchre, the threshold of the mosque toward which worshippers turn to celebrate Friday prayer, these are some of the images from Giovanni Chiaramonte’s pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
Giovanni Chiaramonte (1948 - 2023) was born in Varese, northern Italy, to Sicilian parents, and began photographing in the late 1960s. Deeply influenced by the theological and aesthetic tradition of the Eastern Church, he shares with the Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky the theme of the relationship between place and destiny in Western civilization. In 1978 he founded the publishing cooperative “Punto e Virgola” with Luigi Ghirri and later directed the Jaca Book collection. In 1984 he participated with other photographers in the project Viaggio in Italia (Journey through Italy) conceived by Luigi Ghirri and two years later in the collective work “Esplorazioni sulla via Emilia”. Many exhibitions of his work have been organized in various countries and he published numerous photography books. In December 2023 a tribute meeting was held at MUFOCO, Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea (Museum of Contemporary Photography) in Cinisello Balsamo near Milan. A gallery in Bergamo presented in 2022 a very large exhibition of his works under the title
