Description from the seller
The Fine Arts by Grundig CD2 is a surprisingly good early-1990s hi-fi CD player from the premium “Fine Arts” series by Grundig. These models were positioned above standard Grundig consumer equipment and aimed at the serious hi-fi market.
Produced around 1993–1995, the CD2 uses a Philips-based mechanism and Bitstream DAC architecture. It is known for:
solid metal construction
smooth tray mechanism
very clean display
warm, relaxed sound
reliable Philips CDM transport
Technical highlights:
Philips CDM-12.1 transport
SAA7350GP DAC
coaxial digital output
headphone output with volume control
RC BUS system integration
shuffle / repeat / tape edit functions
100 dB signal-to-noise ratio
weight around 3.5–4.3 kg
Sound quality
The CD2 is generally considered better than typical mass-market Grundig players.
Its sound character is often described as:
smooth
slightly warm
non-fatiguing
musical rather than ultra-analytical
The Philips transport and DAC combination is one reason vintage collectors still like these Fine Arts units.
moderately rare
more uncommon than Sony/Technics/Pioneer players
fairly collectible among European hi-fi fans
