Item Description
The Sony PS-4750 is a mid-range manual direct-drive turntable system produced by Sony in approximately 1974, originally retailing at ¥53,800. It represents a superb example of Sony's meticulous engineering philosophy during the golden age of Japanese high-fidelity audio.
At its core, the PS-4750 employs Sony's proprietary Magnetic Disc (Magnedisc) Servo system, developed in collaboration with Sony Magnescale — a precision instrument manufacturer. The turntable's outer rim carries 512 magnetised signals detected by an 8-gap multi-head, enabling exceptionally stable speed control with excellent load characteristics and outstanding wow & flutter performance of just 0.03% WRMS.
Both the plinth and the turntable are constructed from SBMC (Sony's exclusive acoustic composite material) — a thermosetting reinforced resin combining polyester resin, calcium carbonate, and glass fibre. This material offers a near-zero shrinkage ratio, adjustable specific gravity for optimal moment of inertia, and significantly greater internal damping than aluminium, effectively suppressing resonance and improving signal-to-noise ratio.
The platter uses Sony's unique suction-cup isolation mat, which damps unwanted vertical vibrations through air viscosity resistance, reducing modulation noise and improving stereo imaging.
The tonearm is a static-balance, S-shaped universal design with a 237 mm effective length, accommodating cartridges from 4 g to 14 g. It features an inside force canceller, a cartridge azimuth adjustment mechanism, and an overhang gauge built into the body. The arm has been fully removed, cleaned, and serviced — the lift operates slowly and smoothly.
This unit has been carefully inspected, serviced, and cleaned by an experienced audiophile. All controls and variable resistors have been contact-cleaned and operate correctly. The motor bearing has been lubricated with a premium low-friction oil. Speed stability is confirmed via the strobe, and both 33⅓ and 45 rpm pitch controls function smoothly.
Included accessories: rubber mat, EP adapter, overhang gauge/stylus gauge, Canare RCA phono cable (new), handmade ground wire, and a copy of the overseas service manual.

Condition
This unit is in excellent used condition with only minor light scratches; the body and dust cover have been polished to a clear finish. Switches, pitch controls, and all variable resistors have been contact-cleaned and operate correctly with no issues, and the unit plays with stable rotation and good sound.
