Description from the seller
Dutch Art Deco Side Table / Plant Stand, 1920s
Charming Dutch side table or plant stand from the 1920s, with a simple but very decorative interwar design.
The table has a round upper top and a second lower tier, making it both elegant and practical. It can be used beautifully as a plant stand, side table, small display table or decorative accent piece. The three straight uprights give the design a calm architectural rhythm, while the solid block feet and the uprights rising just above the top add a distinctive decorative detail.
The design is typical of the interwar period: functional, sturdy and carefully balanced in its proportions. The warm colour of the wood and the visible grain give the piece a lively and authentic appearance. It has a sober but expressive character, with Art Deco feeling and a touch of Amsterdam School spirit in the vertical lines and block-like construction.
The construction is simple and honest, in keeping with 1920s furniture, where durability, functionality and form were closely connected.
The piece has been cleaned and refinished with wax, preserving its antique character while giving the wood a warm, cared-for surface.
Condition
Good antique condition. The table is stable and usable. Due to age, the round tops show some slight bending/warping, a natural result of the ageing process of wood. This does not affect its decorative use and adds to the authentic character of the piece. Further signs of age and use are present, including small marks and wear consistent with its period.
