Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Pair of Louis XVI style solid silver salt cellars with cobalt blue Baccarat crystal verres, circa 1880, each bearing Minerve 1er titre and the TD monogram, total net silver 108 g (gross 300 g), dimensions 7.1 × 5.6 × 5 cm, in excellent condition with minor signs of wear.
Description from the seller
Pair of Louis XVI-style solid silver salt cellars with their cobalt blue Baccarat crystal verrines.
Refined production from the late 19th century, around 1880, in the purest 18th‑century style, a refined model with rich decoration that heavily uses the Louis XVI repertoire: laurel swags, strings of pearls, ribbons and bows, pearl row, and goat‑hoof feet. The cartouche bears the monogram TD.
This is a very fine neoclassical production from the late 19th century, the 1880s. At that time, artists, tired of the pastiche that had prevailed for the previous forty years, decided to return to forms and proportions in the purest 18th‑century style. A perfect copy, but with the perfection allowed by the techniques available at the turn of the century. The shapes, proportions, attributes, and decorative details are all perfectly in the Louis XVI taste, perfectly balanced.
They are, each, accompanied by a matching solid silver salt spoon as well. All pieces bear the Minerve first title hallmark (silver alloy 950/1000).
The set is in excellent condition. No deformation, no loss. The verrines are original, bearing small, inconsequential crazing.
Length: 7.1 cm
Width: 5.6 cm
