This magnificent drinking horn comes from the legendary village of Kubachi, in the Republic of Dagestan (Caucasus), famed across the Soviet territory for its millennia-old goldsmithing tradition. During the 1970s–1980s, Dagestani masters produced some of the most refined decorative pieces of the USSR, and this horn is a perfect example of their craftsmanship.
The piece is made from natural cow horn, enriched with a mount of solid 875 silver, guaranteed by the official USSR-era standards. The fittings feature the classic Caucasian ornament incised in silver, with geometric and vegetal motifs characteristic of Kubachi, renowned for their precision and deep cultural significance.
This type of horn was traditionally used in Dagestan and other regions of the Caucasus to drink wine, cognac, or traditional beverages during family celebrations, weddings, and ancestral rituals.
In addition to its functionality, it was a symbol of hospitality, nobility, and family pride.
