Description from the seller
A single illuminated manuscript folio page from a 16th Century Safaivid Qur'an. The page contains the header and first 17 verses of Chapter 54, Al-Qamar (The Moon). A decorative illuminated marginal, typical of the calligraphy of the time, marks the 10th verse of the chapter. These verses warn that the Day of Resurrection is imminent. They cite the miracle of the moon splitting as proof of divine power, condemn the stubborn denial of the disbelievers, and recall the devastating flood of Noah as a historical warning.
The illuminated decorative Surah heading sits within a red and gold frame. The script within the heading is in white Thuluth surrounded by gold and bordered with a decorative blue arabesque book-ends. The script is in bold nastaliq with simple but vibrant gold aya verse markings. The folio is in good condition for its age.
Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing.
Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
