Grand ceremonial Yaka mask, Democratic Republic of the Congo

Carved wood, pigments, plant fibers and textile. Important anthropomorphic mask with a geometrized face featuring half-closed eyes outlined in blue, a straight projecting nose, and a tubular mouth slightly open revealing carved teeth. The face is topped by a spectacular conical superstructure crowned with two circular plates and a tall central stem. Old internal structure of braided fibers preserved.
