Pair of Louis XVI style armchairs, from the Napoleonic III era, 19th century – France

Dimensions: 90 x 61 x 60 cm.
Exquisite pair of Louis XVI style armchairs, made in the Napoleonic III period (1852-1870) in France. Simple wooden frame, with richly carved wood, upholstered in chestnut brown chenille with studs. They show a contrast between the curve of the armrest and the straight, square back. The entire wood structure has flutes that enhance the ensemble, in addition to the flower-shaped carving between the legs and the armrest. Very special for their shape and large size, they are truly exquisite and refined. With a classic and timeless style, these chairs can be placed in both living rooms and bedrooms.
For some authors, Louis XVI is a style with a marked “feminine” tendency, and it even should have been named “Marie Antoinette.” It contrasts with Louis XV in its simplicity; the rigor of geometric forms and straight lines is again appreciated, drawing directly from classical architecture.
