Description from the seller
Pair of Louis XVI style armchairs, from the Napoleonic III era, 19th century – France
Style: Louis XVI
Materials: Wood, fabric
Period: around 1900s.
Country of origin: France
Good condition for their age and use
Dimensions: 90 x 61 x 60 cm.
Exquisite pair of Louis XVI style armchairs, made in the Napoleonic III period (1852-1870) in France. Simple wooden frame, with richly carved wood, upholstered in chestnut brown chenille with studs. They show a contrast between the curve of the armrest and the straight, square back. The entire wood structure has flutes that enhance the ensemble, in addition to the flower-shaped carving between the legs and the armrest. Very special for their shape and large size, they are truly exquisite and refined. With a classic and timeless style, these chairs can be placed in both living rooms and bedrooms.
For some authors, Louis XVI is a style with a marked “feminine” tendency, and it even should have been named “Marie Antoinette.” It contrasts with Louis XV in its simplicity; the rigor of geometric forms and straight lines is again appreciated, drawing directly from classical architecture. It is characterized by lightness, harmony, and proportion, setting aside the heaviness and excess of the styles that follow. It stands as a more discreet and elegant style than its predecessor.
Shipping of the product will be paid by the buyer according to the dimensions, weight, and destination.
