Description from the seller

Self-Made/Outsider Art Glass Spiral Art Lamp, Signed and Dated 1992

A remarkable self-made glass art lamp, signed and dated 1992, constructed from many stacked glass plates arranged in a rising spiral around a central metal rod. The piece sits somewhere between lighting object, outsider art sculpture and architectural model. It is functional as a lamp, but its real strength is sculptural: a luminous glass construction that seems to climb upward like a transparent staircase.

The lamp is made from individual glass sheets or plates, almost laboratory-like in character, stacked one above another in a precise repeated rhythm. Together they create an Escher-like spiral form, turning around the central column and building into a delicate yet surprisingly solid structure. The edges of the glass are slightly rounded and not sharp, and the piece is stable. It can be lifted by the glass construction.

The effect is especially beautiful in light. When placed in sunlight, the glass catches and fragments the light into icy blue-green reflections, casting intricate shadows that echo the structure itself. The included decorative bulb works very well with the piece, adding rainbow tones and giving the lamp a playful, almost optical quality when lit. The bulb turns the object into a small theatre of glass, shadow and colour.

Although the lamp is signed, the artist is not known to us. This only adds to its outsider-art charm: clearly made by someone with imagination, patience and a strong feeling for structure. It is not a factory-made design object, but a personal and highly inventive construction.

A wonderful piece for a gallery-like interior, studio, collector’s room or modernist space. It would also work beautifully on a pedestal, where it can be appreciated as both a lamp and a glass sculpture.

Condition
Very good vintage condition. The glass construction is stable and intact, with light signs of age. The glass edges are slightly rounded and not sharp when touched or when the lamp is lifted by the glass. The lamp is in working order. The wiring is in good working order.

Signature / Date
Signed and dated 1992. The maker is unknown.
