Exceptional Victorian travelling vanity case, circa 1850-1870, in figured walnut burr with ebonised trim. A rare and complete example of a lady's travelling companion — offered with its original key.

Exterior:
Stunning burled walnut veneer with deep, swirling grain
Ebonised wood trim on all edges
Ornate engraved escutcheon and decorative lock plate on the front
Silver-tone hinges on the back
Small brass cartouche on lid (blank)
Concealed sliding drawer at the base — a rare and desirable feature
Interior:
Lid lined with deep royal blue velvet with gilt pinstripe border and fan-corner ornaments
Large foxed mirror in the lid (age-appropriate patina)
Blue velvet jewellery compartment with working lock — original key included
8+ cut crystal glass bottles and jars with engraved silver-plated lids
Square glass perfume bottle with original glass stopper
