Description from the seller

Santa Julita (Julitta) and her son Saint Quírico (Kirik), very venerated martyrs in the Eastern tradition.

In the center appears Saint Julita, standing and veiled.
In front of her is the child Saint Quírico, dressed in white.
To the right is the child's martyrdom, a scene typical of this iconography.
To the left appear Roman authorities or judges.
At the top there is Christ blessing from heaven.

Lives of the saints
According to Christian tradition, Julita was a noble Christian woman from Asia Minor. During Diocletian's persecutions she was arrested together with her son Quírico, barely three years old. The boy also proclaimed his Christian faith, and both died martyrs around the year 304.

It is a Russian icon from the 19th century.
Traditional tempera technique on wood with a gold background.
It preserves the narrative composition well.

This type of family icons of protective saints was very common in Russian homes and could also be commissioned with the patron saint of the family’s child.
